Assembly CyLock module in handlebar
Video for mounting in handlebar:
- Basically, the CyLock module is designed in such a way that it can be easily installed in the handlebars of nearly any bicycle (Exception e.g. racing handlebars with a strong curvature in the grip area or grips with a metal cap – the CyLock module is not suitable for this).
- Basic principle for mounting the module: Push the grip off – insert the module – put the grip on – ready”.
To do this, remove any existing handlebar grip on one side of the handlebar – preferred left side. - Attach O-ring to module: An O-ring is attached to the module. Since only the outer dimensions of a handlebar are standardized, there are a lot of possible inner dimensions of handlebars. The CyLock module has been developed to the smallest possible inner dimensions of handlebars so that CyLock is suitable for as many handlebar types and manufacturers as possible. Depending on the thickness of the inner tube, the O-ring serves to compensate for the difference between the handlebars and the module. Please push the enclosed O-ring on the end of the module up to the small “groove” (see picture on the packaging: position O-ring)..
TIP : if the O-ring is too big and the module cannot be inserted into the handlebar, remove the O-ring (than module 1 mm thinner) and if gap “handlebar – module” is too wide, “tape” it with insulating tape at the same place until the module can be inserted and does not “slacken” in the pipe. - Insert the module into the tube as far as it will go and pay attention to the preferred and urgently advised installation direction, i.e. the lettering “CyLock” of the module points upwards!
- Slide / mount the handlebars back onto the handlebars.
The module is designed to be automatically centered and arrested by the handlebar. - Optionally, the module can be fixed in the handlebars with a locking screw at your own risk – see “CyLock Internet Page download area -> Assembly Instructions -> Option: Fixation with locking screw”. TIP: Handles with plastic plugs:
Many grips are made of solid material (plastic or leather) – for such grips the installation is completed after attaching the grip to the handlebar. Some models of grips have an additional plastic “plug” as a finish (for optical reasons or to lock the grip) – in this case there are two options: - 1. mount the handle in such a way that the cap of the module also directly forms the end of the handle (e.g. handles with mounting on the handlebar by means of a clamping screw) – and leave the plug away.
- 2. in case of a “plug”, cut off the fixing grooves (which fiy the plug in teh handlebar) with a knife and glue the the “smooth” cao onto the module cap with a commercially available adhesive suitable for plastic!
Note: The variant “Stick on plug” can affect the transmission/reception performance of the module. Handles with metal caps as endings are generally not suitable as these shield the radio signals of the module and thus prevent the module from functioning!
Final check of the correct installation of the module
- Go outside with your bike and assembled module (…to test GPS signal reception as well)
- Start CyLock App on smartphone; optimal distance “App <-> Bike” less than 2 meters
- Push Button „Module-Test“ – Wait for test result from the App and follow the instructions if necessary.
Ready to use.
